Trip Overview

Mount Everest is located in Solukhumbu District, Sagarmatha Zone, at an elevation of 8,848.86m above sea level. Often called Sagarmatha in Nepali (in Sanskrit “Ocean mother” or Forehead of the sky) and Chomolungma also spelled as Qomolangma (Holy Mother) in Tibetan, Mount Everest is the tallest amongst all the mountains in the world. The mighty Mount Everest have always been related to with Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary who first made a successful ascent on May 29, 1953, and there have been many milestone since then. May 29th is also celebrated as “Everest Day”. Mount Everest is also an exceptionally stunning mountain and in recent years, the popularity of Everest expedition in Nepal, between mountaineers from around the world has been rising. But its altitude and the technical of the climb are not to be taken too lightly. While so many people have made it to the top, there are many people as well who have lost their lives in an effort to the climb. Yet it is always the biggest dream for any hiking professional or any amateur climber to climb Mount Everest.
The numbers of people who have climbed Mount Everest successfully have been recorded as more than 2000 people and regardless of risk like high winds, bad weather and altitude sickness always being there, some people have even made it to the top twice and even more. Earlier Mount Everest was known as Peak XV or Peak fifteen and Mt Everest was named after the land Surveyor General ’Sir George Everest’ who first tried to locate the exact position of the peak.
The name Mount Everest was agreed when British surveyor Andrew Waugh did not find any common local name. He then named the mountain after Surveyor General George Everest, head of the British team who first surveyed the Himalayas. There are many less often climbed routes in Mount Everest but the southeast ridge from Nepal and the north ridge from Tibet are the two main climbing routes and of which, the southeast ridge is technically easier and is the more frequently used route. The same route was also used by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay and the first known of fifteen routes to the top by 1996. In 1921, George Mallory discovered the northern approach during the British Reconnaissance Expedition, which was an examining expedition, not planned to attempt the peak. Altitudes above 8000 m are often referred to as the “Death Zone”, where many people seem to lose their lives and with great effort, they survive at for more than a few days. Even plants and animals struggle to survive under the extreme conditions of Mt Everest since those higher altitudes cannot support animal life or vegetation. There are no plants or any animals above 5,750 meters but the valleys below the mountain have been settled by the Sherpas in the villages at an altitude up to about 4,270m in the Khumbu valley of Nepal and other locations and also in the lower areas few plants and animals are found.
The peak of Mount Everest has three rather flat sides; it is said to be shaped like a three-sided pyramid and the three generally flat planes forming the sides are called faces, and the line by which two faces join is known as a ridge. Mount Everest is surrounded by a number of significant peaks and that also includes Lhotse, (8,516m), Nuptse (7,855m) and Changtobse, (7,580m). Whilst the height of the Mount Everest has always been a center of attention, the same topic has also stimulated many controversies and nevertheless, Mount Everest will always be famous for its extreme height and ultimate mountaineering adventure. The gratification of being at the top of the Mount Everest is also extreme similar to its height. The best time to climb the Mount Everest would be from March-April.
